# Heart of the Glens Landscape
Heart of the Glens Landscape, operated by Causeway Coast & Glens Heritage Trust, is a heritage conservation and community engagement initiative based in Ballymoney. Rather than a traditional commercial business, it functions as a landscape partnership programme that delivered over 66 built, natural and cultural heritage projects across the Antrim Glens between 2014 and 2020.
The organisation serves local communities, schools, tourism businesses, councils and visitors to the region. They work to conserve and enhance the landscape's heritage whilst creating meaningful engagement opportunities for residents and visitors alike. The partnership secured £1.8m in funding, with £1.4m from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, complemented by substantial in-kind contributions and thousands of volunteer hours.
What distinguishes Heart of the Glens is their comprehensive, evidence-based approach. Prior to implementation, they developed a detailed Landscape Conservation Action Plan based on thorough baseline assessments of built, natural and cultural assets. This strategic framework ensured projects addressed genuine conservation needs whilst maximising community benefit.
Their outputs include establishing new accessible walking routes across 11 sites along the Causeway Coastal route, developing digital resources and educational materials, and creating volunteering opportunities centred on landscape stewardship. The programme's legacy continues through the Antrim Coast and Glens Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty management plan, with CCGHT actively pursuing ongoing heritage conservation and community participation initiatives.
