# Landscape Division, University of Edinburgh
The Landscape Division is the in-house grounds maintenance team responsible for managing all soft landscaped areas across the University of Edinburgh's multiple campuses. Based at Gilmerton Road, this specialised team maintains some of Edinburgh's most significant institutional green spaces, including Pollock Halls student residences, King's Buildings, George Square Gardens, Easter Bush Campus, and the Queen's Medical Research Institute.
The team delivers comprehensive horticultural and arboricultural services beyond basic grass cutting. They manage biodiversity-rich areas, maintain established tree stock and woodlands, oversee shrub and herbaceous borders, and provide specialist weed control and pruning works. Their expertise extends to snow clearing and gritting services across multiple University properties during winter months.
What distinguishes this division is their commitment to ecological excellence and integrated landscape design. They don't simply maintain grounds—they actively promote wildlife value and species diversity whilst ensuring optimal plant health and development. The team works closely on in-house design for new building projects and planned refurbishment of existing landscaped areas, ensuring cohesive landscape strategy across the estate.
Operating Monday to Friday (8:00am-3:30pm), the Landscape Division balances horticultural best practice with rigorous health and safety standards, creating welcoming green spaces for students, staff and visitors. Their work contributes significantly to the University's green infrastructure value and connections with Edinburgh's wider landscape ecology.
